Organizations Within Extension Warehouse

For a number of years, Extension Warehouse has allowed developers to sell extensions on the Extension Warehouse. With a variety of different features and pricing models available this platform has grown more each year.

Companies choosing to host their extensions on Extension Warehouse have typically benefitted from a page with which to manage their extensions. There would normally be one login associated to this page, and that allocated person can then upload new content, download sales information and be in full control of that page.

But what if that person falls ill or if they left the business? How does the company keep control then? Tasks such as transferring extensions from an old account to a new owner can also became a complex task, leaving us trying to track down who officially owns the IP to an extension.

Now we are pleased to announce Organizations.

Organizations is new feature that allows you to manage your extension page and the teams that you work with.

Many companies that sell on Extension Warehouse have more than one employee involved with their projects. This could be the business owner, the sales / marketing team and a team of developers. Each of these have different responsiblities to the business and different access rights.

Roles

Organizations currently cover three different roles.

Member - This role allows a user to contribute content to this organization. For example they could upload an extension to Extension Warehouse or 3D model to 3D Warehouse

Analyst - Users with the Analyst role can contribute content (as per the Member role) and can also download analytic data regarding sales etc.

Admin - Anyone assigned the Admin role is able to contribute content, download analytic information and also add / remove other members from the organization.

Uploading Extensions To An Organization (available to all roles)

The process for uploading extensions should still be familiar. As per the below screenshot, a new drop list has been introduced allowing you to pick which account or organization you wish to upload your extension to.

*This will only appear if you are assigned to an existing organization.

Once uploaded your extensions can still be found within the My Extensions area.

To toggle between your personal account or the different organizations you may be assigned to, simply click the down facing arrow next to the account name

You can then manage the extensions associated to the account you have selected.

Organization Settings (available to admin roles only)

The settings page for personal accounts remains the same as before.

To view the settings for other organizations that you may be assigned to simply click the down facing arrow and pick the relevant account.

When you select an organization from the drop list, a new tab will open, taking you to a 3D Warehouse page.

All organization settings are managed here. For example you can add / remove members as well as assign roles to them.
